Dr Alex Martin-Smith
CMgr., MBA, LLM, DBA — Founder & CEO, upleashed
Alex is the person behind the editorial standards, methodology, and quality assurance that shape every page on BroadbandSwitch.uk.
Alex has spent more than twenty years building technology that helps organisations understand what their people can do and where they need to grow. His methodology has been used in over 92.5 million skills assessments, delivered across the UK, Europe, the United States, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines.
That work led him to found upleashed, where he serves as CEO. The company builds ethical, inclusive skills intelligence platforms, including PulseAI, which gives organisations real-time visibility into capability while putting personal development directly in the hands of individuals. Before upleashed, Alex founded ability6 in 2016, creating competency frameworks and skills matrix tools for organisations of every size and sector.
Alex holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from LIGS University, an MBA with a specialisation in Business Intelligence, two Master of Laws degrees, and a Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership from the Chartered Management Institute. He is a Chartered Manager (CMgr.).
In April 2025, Alex took on the role of Investor and Strategic Lead at SearchSwitchSave, the parent company of BroadbandSwitch.uk. He oversees a portfolio of UK consumer platforms focused on broadband, mobile, and digital switching tools, with a clear mission: help people make confident, fair choices on essential services.
Outside of work, Alex pledges 3% of annual net profits to children’s charities, including St John’s SPC and fundraising for MaxAppeal. He describes his most important achievement as being a proud dad of four children.
