Independent profile snapshot

This extended snapshot summarises how the provider presents itself in the UK market. It supplements the dataset-led summary above.

Borders Online is a Scottish community-focused wireless and fibre broadband Internet Service Provider delivering superfast rural connectivity to hard-to-reach homes and businesses across the Scottish Borders, South Lanarkshire, Midlothian and East Lothian. Registered as Borders Online Ltd and a UKWISPA member, the operator was formed in 2019 through the merger of Stobo Dawyck Community Network and Heriot Community Broadband, two community networks that had each been operating successfully for around five years and shared volunteers plus some masts. Borders Online has built a network of radio masts across the Scottish Borders hills and surrounding communities, delivering Fixed Wireless Access services at 30Mbps download without requiring a phone line, only a clear line of sight to a relay site. Where Openreach has rolled out FTTP, Borders Online also resells a full-fibre service directly via Openreach's network. Usage tariffs are available with data allowances for all users plus unlimited options, and the operator offers additional networking services (OSPF/MPLS/VPLS/BGP) for local businesses.
