About KCOM

This profile is built from our broadband market dataset and the sources linked on this page. We do not repeat unchecked marketing claims; numbers and dates match fields on file or linked evidence.

Independent profile snapshot

This extended snapshot summarises how the provider presents itself in the UK market. It supplements the dataset-led summary above.

KCOM is the incumbent telecoms provider for Kingston upon Hull and the surrounding area, headquartered in Hull and uniquely serving the only UK city not covered by BT Openreach's network. The company operates its own full fibre (FTTP) network reaching approximately 305,000 premises across East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, including around 200,000 in Hull, and was the first UK city to have full fibre broadband available to all residents in October 2019 through its £85 million Lightstream project. KCOM provides residential broadband, business broadband, wholesale services, and is the designated Universal Services Obligation provider for the Hull area. The business traces its origins to 1902 when Hull Corporation was licensed to operate a municipal telephone system, making it the longest-standing UK alternative network. Privately owned by Macquarie Group (via MEIF 6 Fibre Ltd) since August 2019 following a £627 million acquisition and delisting from the London Stock Exchange, KCOM continues its FTTP expansion and copper-to-fibre migration programme.
